A428 between St Neots and Caxton Gibbet roundabout: urgent arboricultural works

Kier will be undertaking urgent arboricultural and vegetation removal works at the above location, on behalf of Highways England. Previous surveys have identified the need for maintenance works in this location, for road safety reasons. So that we can maximise our working window and minimise local disruption in future, we will be using this opportunity to undertake additional road cyclic maintenance works.

We plan to complete this work over five nights, from Monday 17 September, with working hours of 9pm until 5am, weather permitting. Two full closures of the A428 in both directions will be in place; between Cambridge Road roundabout (St Neots), and the B1040, Eltisley, and the A428 between Caxton Gibbet roundabout and the B1040 turnoff for Papworth Everard. A map showing the closure points and diversion routes is listed below.

Diversion route

Traffic wishing to continue along the A428 towards either Cambridge or St Neots will use the agreed diversion route.

A428 eastbound – From Wyboston, take the A1 northbound to Brampton Hut interchange, A14 eastbound to junction 24 Spittals interchange, A1198 southbound before re-joining the A428 at Caxton Gibbet roundabout.

A428 westbound – From Caxton Gibbet roundabout, take the A1198 northbound to Spittals interchange, A14 westbound to Brampton Hut interchange, A1 southbound, before re-joining the A428 at Wyboston.

Local Access

Please note that residents of Croxton and Eltisley have been contacted by letter detailing both the works and instructions for organising safe escorts to/from their properties

These works are to take place during weekday off peak hours, when traffic flows are at their lightest. We apologise for the local inconvenience these works may cause and thank you for your patience whilst we carry out strategic maintenance work.
