Celebrating VE Day 75th anniversary safely

As you will know, the May Bank Holiday was moved to Friday 8th May, to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. We have come across numerous posters and social media posts with ideas on how to mark the celebration and we want to ensure this is done safely by adhering to social distancing.
Traditionally, street parties would be held with households coming together to share food, play games and socialise. Unfortunately, during these times these events have to be cancelled, but you can still celebrate from the safety of your home and garden.
Things you could do:
– Decorate with bunting outside or inside your home
– Have a picnic in your garden
– 2 minute silence on your doorstep at 11am
– Play games with members of your household
It is important to stress that households should not be mingling in close proximity. Please ensure that you are keeping at least 2 metres apart from people that are not part of your household when out on daily exercise.
Picnics on village greens and open spaces are not permitted.
You can find bunting and posters to print, cut out and colour in at this website:

Covid-19 – what are we doing?

The Town Council is supporting the Cambourne Volunteer Task Force (CVTF) by co-ordinating checks on all volunteers. The volunteers and the activities they take part in will be covered by the Town Council’s insurance. We will be providing all volunteers with an ID card, to reassure the public of who they are. We are also providing bureaucratic support to CVTF. The Cambourne Volunteer Task Force has worked incredibly hard so far to ensure the most vulnerable residents are getting the essential supplies. If you would like to volunteer, please email or for a volunteering document.

Recycling Points Closed

Information received from Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service

Planning to have a clear-out? Please be aware that services are being impacted by the coronavirus pandemic:

• Collections from clothing banks have been suspended and charity shops are shut. Please store any clothes you are planning to pass on until normal services resume. This will prevent the banks from overflowing.

• Bulky waste collections have been suspended and Household Recycling Centres are shut. Please store any large items for now. Do NOT add them to your black bin.

• Green bin collections are suspended. If you are tidying up the garden, heap up any garden waste to create a compost heap, or store until collections resume.
